Dark Wood Rainbow Earrings

These beautiful earrings feature a stunning hand painted neon rainbow cutout set within a wooden teardrop.

I design, make and hand finish these earrings with care and love.

I cut my original design from sheets of wood using a laser. The wood I use is a high-quality Birch ply. It is from fully certified, sustainable sources and therefore ideal for the eco-conscious.

I clean, condition, and sand all the wood pieces by hand for a smooth, tactile finish.

A dark wood stain is applied to the exposed wood along with a gloss varnish coating. This deepens the colour of the exposed wood to a rich hue and nicely highlights the wood grain.

I then add the hand painted accents that make the rainbow design pop. I use fluorescent ink to stain the wood bright, highly pigmented rainbow colours. Each of these neon colours glow under UV light creating a special, eye-catching effect.

I attach high-quality, silver plated ear hooks to the wooden pieces so that they can be worn. They are lead and nickel free to reduce irritation and, as the wood is so lightweight, they dangle with ease and comfort from the ear.
